The week in pictures

This week in the world of drinks: Freixenet hosted the Future of Tourism World Summit 2021 in Barcelona on 26 and 27 October, top somms embark on a tour of London with Masi, and Douglas Blyde heads to Kol restaurant for the launch of Maestro Dobel Tequila’s DOBEL 50 series.

Freixenet hosted the Future of Tourism World Summit 2021 in Barcelona in October, with the event attended by prominent figures in the tourism sector.

On Monday 1st November, Masi Agricola and Berkmann Wine Cellars took some of the city’s finest sommeliers across the capital in a ‘Masi Tassi’ tour to explore the breadth of Masi’s portfolio.

Giacomo Boscaini of the Masi family hosted the evening, using three restaurants to showcase various Estates and wine ranges from the Masi portfolio, with food pairings along the way.

And next, to Kol Restaurant, Marylebone on Dia De Los Muertos for the unveiling of the second incarnation from Maestro Dobel Tequila’s DOBEL 50 series: 1•9•6•9. Amidst a tablescape and altar of specially sourced marigolds and candles styled like marigolds, designed by Mexican interior architect, Stephanie Barba Mendoza, this violet, strudel and honey scented, extraordinarily persistent, single estate Extra Anejo tequila was finished in former Sauternes casks. Only forty 1.75cl decanters have been released at a cost of £895 via the Hedonism Wines and Harvey Nichols which might sound a lot, though, take note, they each harbour a capacity of 1.75cl, meaning you get seventy x 25ml servings per bottle equating to a mere £12.78 each.

Bacardi-owned Grey Goose has launched a party-themed campaign spotlighting its vodka Martini.

The vodka brand has teamed up with marketing agency Mullen Lowe for Vive Le Martini, a 30-second spot showcasing the brand’s classic serve.

The ad opens with the tagline Do the ‘Tini, with the camera panning to a number of party guests performing dance routines to mirror the moves of a bartender crafting a Grey Goose Martini.

This Old Fashioned Week, Wild Turkey has teamed up with The Drinks Drop and five bars from around the UK spanning Edinburgh to London.
