Man turns 6,500 wine corks into a 6ft Easter Island Moai head sculpture
A Kentucky man with an artistic flair put the time afforded to him by the coronavirus pandemic to good use, creating a remarkable six-foot tall Easter Island Moai head sculpture out of 6,500 wine corks.
It’s fair to say that the coronavirus pandemic afforded us more time than we were used to with very little of our traditional hobbies available to us.
As such, many of us picked up new hobbies during lockdown, in a bid to pass the time and learn something new. How to bake banana bread, for instance.
But you’d be hard pressed to find a more unique and impressive feat of lockdown hobby-making than Joe Kremer’s.
Kremer, a jewellery maker from Kentucky, decided to turn his love for art and crafts to the ultimate challenge: creating a six-food Easter Island Moai head sculpture out of wine corks.

Affectionately known as Big Mo, the statue is so big it had to be built in two sections to fit through doorways. Collecting the wine corks was also a challenge, as Kremer reportedly does not drink. Dutifully, friends, family and anonymous donations kept him stocked up with enough wine corks to build Big Mo.
