Wine Scholar Guild appoints French programmes director

Vancouver-based sommelier Matthew Landry has joined The Wine Scholar Guild as its French programmes director.

As one of the leading wine certification programme providers in the world, The Wine Scholar Guild focuses on programmes on the wines of France, Italy and Spain for the professional development of wine industry members and committed students of wine.

To support the growth and expansion of the organisation, they have recently announced the addition of Matthew Landry as the new French programmes director.

Julien Camus, WSG president, said of the appointment: “We had over 125 highly qualified applicants for this position. Matthew stood out for his energy, creativity, wine savvy and passion for all things French. We are proud to now count him among our own.”

In his new role, Landry will take over the reins of the Guild’s French programming from Lisa M. Airey, WSG director of education.

“Coming on board has been a dream come true for me,” Landry said. “I’ve used the Guild’s programming for years. It’s an industry leader in education and its core values – making wine education accessible, enjoyable and inclusive – are dearly important to me.”

Matthew Landry grew up in the Niagara region of Canada, where he began his long career in the hospitality industry. He is a certified sommelier, freelance educator and wine importer. In 2019, he won the prestigious Best Sommelier of BC award. This spring will also mark the second vintage of Matthew’s own custom crush wine project in BC’s Okanagan Valley.
