Tanqueray launches blackcurrant gin

High-end gin brand Tanqueray is hoping to capitalise on the flavoured gin boom with the launch of a blackcurrant expression called Blackcurrant Royale.

The 41.3% ABV gin, inspired by Charles Tanqueray’s travels to France, is made with the four botanicals of Tanqueray London Dry Gin blended with French blackcurrants, vanilla and black orchid, to add “exotic floral notes”.

Brand owner Diageo describes the gin as “luxurious, with a rich and sophisticated flavour profile that will elevate a crisp summer gin and tonic”.

Tanqueray Blackcurrant Royale is on sale now on Amazon, and is due to hit supermarket shelves on 17 February, with plans to roll it out in the on-trade later this year.

Keen to tap into the growing ready-to-drink category, in April Tanqueray is set to launch two new RTDs in 250ml cans: Tanqueray London Dry Gin and Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla Distilled Gin.

Tanqueray Rangpur Lime Distilled Gin, meanwhile, is getting a makeover in April via new lime green packaging to help it stand out on the shelf and highlight its citrus flavour profile.

“The gin category continues to thrive and this is primarily motivated by consumer demand for new and exciting variants.

“Tanqueray has always been commended for its taste and quality – and the introduction of Tanqueray Blackcurrant Royale is an extension of the brand’s commitment to introducing rich and exciting new choices to the market,” Adrienne Gammie, Diageo’s marketing director for gins, said.

“We continue to see a huge trend in customers seeking new formats – especially in the pre-mix category. The new can formats provide convenience to the consumer, while being able to enjoy a high-quality serve at home,” she added.

Tanqueray was founded in 1830 by Charles Tanqueray, who trialled 300 recipes before settling on the final blend for Tanqueray London Dry Gin.
