Vranken Pommery Monopole marks Valentine’s Day with English fizz

Champagne House Vranken Pommery Monopole is marking Valentine’s Day this year with English fizz.

Pommery is highlighting the first English sparkling wine from a Champagne House, Louis Pommery England, as a perfect fizz to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, along with a selection of pink sparklers to act as something of an antidote to the stream of relentless of woe in the news.

“Roses are red, champagne has bubbles, let’s drink a glass of rosé and forget all our troubles,” the Champagne House said.

The Champagne House is is also marketing a ‘his and hers’ option, with a Heidsieck Monopole Rosé & Blue Top in gift boxes.

Pink fizz has proved to be one of the ‘break-out’ winners of Valentine’s Day over the last few years in the US, with data from Nielsen revealing that value sales of pink fizz in the US rose 40% in the week ending 16 February 2019 compared to the previous before, as sparkling wine’s growth bucked the overall dip in US wine consumption in 2019.

The brand’s Pink Champagnes include Heidsieck Monopole Rosé Top Brut Champagne, which it describes as afine, elegant champagne” which is dominated by “small red fruits, with a subtle hint of raspberry and redcurrant”, fresh with a slightly tart finish and traditionally served with desserts, but would make a nice accompaniment to grilled shellfish (RRP £34.99, available at Ocado)

The Champagne House notes its most romantic wine is its Pommery Brut Rosé Champagne, a delicate pale pink champagne with slightly salmon tones. The blend of rosé and Pinot Noir of Bouzy Grand Cru is stored in a cellar for three years to develop the distinctive properties of Pommery Rosé, giving a fine and fruity champagne distinguished by fleshy note while retaining lively freshness and subtlety. Available at Ocado, Waitrose and Majestic (RRP: £44.99 – £49.99)

The Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top Brut Champagne gives structure, roundness and complexity with yellow fruits and peach, cherry plums and oranges on the palate.  Available from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Co-Op, Morrisons, Asda & Ocado (RRP £28.99)

Finally, its Chateau La Gordonne Rosé Verite Du Terrior Cotes De Provence, which comes from vines facing the Mediterranean, expresses the ”vérité du terroir” through a bright pink wine showing notes of citrus, and a nose the brand describes as “seducing by its elegance and freshness” and “complex aromas of ripe & fresh red fruits & flowers of great finesse”. Available from Ocado (RRP £16.49)
