The Clove Club to close Two Lights

Two Lights in Shoreditch, the sister restaurant to The Clove Club, is to close its doors for good after finding itself unable to keep trading through the pandemic.

As reported by Eater London, the news was announced this week over Instagram. “It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of the restaurant. Like so many of our peers from the first lockdown in March, we have had huge obstacles to try and overcome, and unfortunately the recent curfew, tier restrictions and this second lockdown have finally made the continuation of the restaurant untenable,” the post said.

“Foremost we’d like to thank Chase Lovecky, our partner and head chef for all his hard work over the last two years, to our current team and to the rest of the Two Lights family who played a part however large or small thank you.

“And finally a huge thanks to everyone who came to eat and drink and loved the restaurant as much as we did. We encourage you to try and support your favourite restaurants as much as you can during this tough time,” it added.

Headed up by American chef Chase Lovecky, Two Lights opened in 2018, billing itself as a ‘modern American’ restaurant with a menu that drew inspiration from Lovecky’s New England roots.

Lovecky worked as head chef at The Clove Club for three years. Prior to that, he held positions at David Chang’s Momofuku KO and Momofuku Seiobo, and spent time at Jean George and at Hugo’s in Maine. Among its signature dishes were crab and beef fat chips.

As reported by Eater London, on reopening after lockdown in September, Lovecky firmly focused on New England classics like lobster rolls and seafood boils. The Clove Club is currently closed due to the national lockdown in England.
