Guinness recalls new 0.0% stout in UK

Guinness has been forced to recall its new 0.0% stout in the UK as a “precautionary measure” because of a microbial contamination.

The brewery has said that a microbial contamination, “may make some cans of Guinness 0.0% unsafe to consume.”

Anyone who has bought any of the product has been advised not to drink it but to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund or to contact the Diageo Consumer Careline (details below).

Only the new 0.0% draught beer is affected and Guinness said it was “working hard to investigate and determine the root cause”, as well as working with all retailers to remove stock from shelves and communicate the recall as widely as possible.

“The issue is isolated to Guinness 0.0 and does not impact any other Guinness variants or brands. Guinness 0.0 is a new product manufactured in a different way from other Guinness variants. The health and safety of our consumers is our number one priority,” the brewery said in a statement.

It added it was hopeful of relaunching the product again soon but, “production will only recommence when we are completely satisfied that we have eliminated the root cause of the issue and the product meets the highest standards of quality that we and our Guinness drinkers expect.”

The new 0.0% stout was only launched in the UK at the end of last month. It is a de-alcoholised beer, where the alcohol is removed through a cold filtration method.

You can contact the Diageo Consumer Careline on consumercare.gbandireland@diageo.com or 0345 601 4558 with details of your purchase to receive a refund voucher before disposing of the product.
