Dominique Demarville to leave Champagne Laurent-Perrier

Long-standing former Veuve Clicquot chef de cave Dominique Demarville is leaving Champagne Laurent-Perrier after less than a year as cellar master at the house, according to La Champagne de Sophie Claeys and L’Union.

As featured on the L’Union website – following news first reported by Champagne specialist reporter Sophie Claeys – Demarville is due to step down from his leading winemaking role at Laurent-Perrier on 15 July, meaning he has been at the house for a little less than a year – as db exclusively revealed in May last year, Demarville was making the switch from Veuve Clicquot to Laurent-Perrier by the end of 2019.

Having worked as a cellar master at Veuve Clicquot since 2006, it was reported by db that Demarville was moving in late 2019 to Laurent-Perrier to replace the soon-to-retire incumbent chef de cave, Michel Fauconnet.

However, as revealed last month by L’Union, Demarville is leaving Laurent-Perrier this month for “personal reasons”, with Michel Fauconnet coming out of retirement to take back the day-to-day running of winemaking operations at Laurent-Perrier.

It was later rumoured that Demarville may be joining Champagne Bollinger, but L’Union newspaper has since quashed such a suggestion too.
