Artist Sonia Alins designs new Neleman Viognier blend
Valencia’s Bodegas Neleman has recruited Spanish artist Sonia Alins to design the label for a soon-to-launch wine.
Called The Swimmers, it is a blend of Viognier and Riesling, aged on its lees and matured in a mix of French oak and acacia barrels.
Just 7,800 bottles of The Swimmers will be released to market.
Neleman owns a winery near Valencia in eastern Spain, with vineyards located west of the city at Casas del Rey, one of the highest points in the region at 900 metres above sea-level.
Catalonian-born Sonia Alins, who is famous for her ethereal aquatic scenes, designed the label for The Swimmers, taking inspiration from her illustrative series Dones d’aigua (Water Women).
Her Water Women series gained her a place in the 2018 shortlist for the World Illustration Awards.
The Swimmers’ label “represents an allegorical expression of happiness created through a choreography of women swimming and dancing,” according to Neleman.
