DFS to close alcohol outlet at Singapore airport

After a 35-year stint, luxury travel retailer DFS Group has decided not to renew its liquor and tobacco concession at Singapore Changi Airport, but will hold a sale before it closes.

Before the retailer closes its concession for good on 8 June 2020, customers can take advantage of a sale and a series of offers.

DFS began its liquor and tobacco concession operation at Changi Airport in 1985. Carrying more than 700 different wine and spirit brands, the travel retailer has also hosted a range of wine and spirit events for customers to experience, for example, the annual Masters of Wines and Spirits showcase, first launched in 2012 as well as The Craft Festival in 2018 and The Whisky Festival in 2019.

Commenting on the announcement, Aymeric Lacroix, DFS Group managing director for Asia South said: “As one of DFS’ most esteemed allies for the last 35 years, we thank Changi Airport Group for their ongoing support and partnership. We will continue to serve our customers with the same passion for excellence that has distinguished us at Changi Airport until our official exit in June 2020.”

Without having to travel, from 16 to 22 May, DFS Singapore Changi Airport will be presenting customers their last opportunity to purchase over 200 exclusive wines and spirits on iShopChangiWines.com, with up to 70% savings and taxes and duties absorbed by the company. Customers can view the flash deals released at 9pm daily .

Featured products include Chichibu whisky and Château Villa Bel Air Red, beers and the Prestige Collection which offers over 14 rare and limited wines and spirits.

South Korean company Lotte Duty Free, which has world’s second-largest sales turnover in the sector, will take over the space at Changi Airport from 9 June 2020. According to a statement issued last year, the company expects to give face-lifts to all 18 stores at the airport, with the addition of conceptual zones and interactive elements.
