Guy Gordon Clark dies at 91

Guy Gordon Clark died peacefully at his care home on 6 January aged 91. Guy joined his family’s wine & spirits agency firm, Matthew Clark & Sons after national service in 1948 and was made a director in 1952.

He was the great-great grandson of the founder, Matthew Clark and an uncle to the well-known trade figures David & Michael Cox.

Guy was chairman of the Wine & Spirit Association in 1969/70 and was chairman of the British Winery, JE Mather, which Matthew Clark acquired in 1966. Guy was also a Past Master of The Worshipful Company of Vintners and was a past chairman of The Benevolent – the drinks industry’s trade charity, which his nephew David Cox also ran as chief executive from 2013-18

His funeral will take place at St Nicolas Church, Fulford’s Hill, Itchingfield, Horsham, West Sussex RH13 0NX at 11.30am on Wednesday 29 January and the family would be happy for any trade colleagues to attend and to join them for refreshments afterwards at Itchingfield House.

There is parking at the side of the lane by the church and attendees will all walk from the church back to the house after the burial.

It would very much help the family to know numbers for catering so if anyone wishing to attend could email either of Guy’s two daughters it would be appreciated.
