Alice Tétienne named as Henriot’s new chef de cave

Krug winemaker Alice Tétienne has been named as the new cellar master at Champagne Henriot and will start her new position on 1 April 2020.

Tétienne joined Krug in 2015, where she was responsible for vineyard relations and formed part of the tasting committee alongside Eric Lebel and Julie Cavil.

Born and bred in Champagne, Tétienne has a degree in vine sciences and a masters in viticulture and terroir.

She began her career working for Laurent-Perrier in the Champagne house’s marketing department but soon moved into winemaking after attaining a diploma in oenology.

She joined Nicolas Feuillatte in 2014 as a winemaker and moved to Krug a year later.

“I would first like to thank Laurent Fresnet, who for 13 years has greatly contributed to enhancing the precision and elegance of our Champagnes,” Henriot’s president, Gilles de Larouzière, said.

“We are very happy that Alice Tétienne is joining us. A brilliant and talented woman, she will help to grow the influence and the value of Champagne Henriot, thanks to her culture of excellence and her strong spirit of collaboration with our partners in the vineyard.

“By appointing her, I also have a special thought for another talented woman, my relative Apolline Henriot, who in 1808 founded our house,” he added.

Henriot’s former cellar master, Laurent Fresnet, moved to Champagne Mumm in September, taking over from Didier Mariotti as chef de cave after 13 years at Henriot.

Fresnet’s move follows news announced in July that Didier Mariotti was to become Champagne Veuve Cliquot’s new cellar master, joining the team on 26 August and working with outgoing head winemaker Dominique Demarville in a transition period, before taking full control on 1 January 2020.
