Gaucho to relaunch original Charlotte Street site

Martin Williams, the restaurateur behind the ‘M’ steakhouse concept, is to relaunch Argentine steakhouse Gaucho’s original site on Charlotte Street next month.

Marking the chain’s 25thanniversary, new CEO Williams has given the Charlotte Street venue a new look, ridding it of its cow-hide heavy interiors in favour of earthy Argentine tones. A similar design aesthetic will be replicated across all 16 Gaucho sites, which will carry over into the uniforms.

Other new features of the Charlotte Street original include a four-seater ‘beef bar’ where guests are given tutorials on how to make steak tartare and beef carpaccio by the chefs.

Culinary director Mike Reid has designed the new menu at Gaucho Charlotte Street

The venue will also boast two destination cocktail bars offering a number of high-end Argentine wines on tap in a bid to lower the restaurant’s carbon footprint.

Gaucho Charlotte Street plans to host movie screenings on its projector through its Gaucho Film Club, which will focus on immersive cinema experiences where diners eat and drink what they see on screen in films like Love Actuallyand The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The menu has been overseen by culinary director Mike Reid, who, prior to Gaucho, has clocked up stints at Le Gavroche in Mayfair and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea.

Steaks form the lion’s share of the menu, and are available in a variety of cuts and weights with an array of sauces and accompaniments, such as chorizo butter and black truffle butter.

On the seafood front are the likes of scallop ceviche, and garlic and herb half lobster, while puds include salted dulche de leche cheesecake.
