Scotch Malt Whisky Society launches Glasgow members’ room

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is to launch its first Members’ Room in Glasgow next January to add to its existing locations in Edinburgh.

The Bath Street location in the heart of Glasgow will feature rooms exclusively for SMWS members that will be open from Tuesday to Sunday.

On pour at the venue will be over 300 Society bottlings taking in 12 flavour profiles, such as ‘Old & Dignified’ and ‘Oily & Coastal,’ alongside a selection of single cask, single malts available by the dram.

The décor will be consistent with the society’s other Members’ Rooms but with a “modern and vibrant Glasgow flavour” to reflect its location.

Among its features will be a ‘snug’ seating area, private dining room and a whisky tasting room for up to 10 people, which will be available to book for private tastings.

In addition to an ever-evolving range of SMWS whiskies, the space will serve a selection of special proprietary whiskies alongside local beers, whisky cocktails, snacks and tapas.

“There has always been a demand from our members for an SMWS venue in Glasgow, so we’re delighted to be opening in such a great city with a lively whisky scene,” said Jan Damen, operations director at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

“We have a high number of existing members in the city and the surrounding area, so we hope to provide them with their own venue to meet up and also welcome new whisky-loving members to join us there,” Damen added.
