Gabriel Meffre acquires vineyards in Cairanne

Rhône producer Gabriel Meffre has acquired 11 hectares of vineyards in and around the appellation of Cairanne bringing its total holdings to 90ha across the region.

The 11ha are split between 7ha in Cairanne, 1.5ha in Rasteau and 2.5ha in Côtes du Rhône Villages and strengthens, the winery said, its position in the southern Rhône and access to the region’s ‘crus’.

The vines are largely located in the southeast of the appellation, in the terraces along the Ouvèze.

The wines from the newly acquired vineyards will be used to round out the range of Domaine de Longue Toque, which also produces wines from Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Côtes de Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône, starting from this year’s harvest.

CEO Etienne Meffre said: “With this acquisition, we are demonstrating our strong attachment to the southern Rhône Valley, where we are one of its long-standing players. It also gives us greater security in terms of our supplies and the quality of the wines we produce.”
