Tom Sellers relocates Michelin-starred restaurant to Cornwall for summer

Chef Tom Sellers is temporarily closing his Michelin-starred restaurant Story in London, taking the entire team to the Cornish coast for a six-week residency called Story by the Sea.

Located on the privately-owned Blue Flag beach at the Carbis Bay Estate, the temporary site will offer diners views of blue sea and golden beaches.

Available to book for lunch or dinner seven days a week from from 2 August to 14 September, the residency will offer a five or six course menu inspired by the ocean and created using local produce.

The drinks menu will feature twists on classic cocktails alongside Restaurant Story’s signature drinks.

With a nod to Story’s London site, Story by the Sea will showcase traditional interiors alongside a contemporary aesthetic with an emphasis on natural textures and comfortable seating.

The residency will see Tom Sellers launch his collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organisation and global network for creators, thinkers and leaders known for its Ocean Plastic Program.

The collaboration between Story by the Sea and Parley for the Oceans is aiming to remove 50 tonnes of plastic waste from beaches, remote islands, rivers, mangroves, high seas and coastal communities as part of the Parley Global Clean Up Network.

As a reminder to avoid single-use plastic, guests will receive a Parley Ocean Bag at the end of the meal made from five salvaged plastic water bottles.

Also available to purchase from the story website for £20, every bag sold will lead to the removal of 10 pounds of marine plastic waste.

Sellers said, “I have always had the fondest memories of the seaside and a very loving relationship with our oceans.

“The ocean is a magical gift we have been given, along with everything found within it, and I feel extremely lucky to have this opportunity to cook within Carbis Bay.

The ocean and all that surrounds it will shape our vision for the menu’s creative process and cooking style.”

Story by the Sea will run from 2 August – 14 September 2019 with the set menu priced at £95 per person for a 5-course lunch and £125 per person for a 6-course dinner.
