Australian winery Howard Park raises HK$300,000 for charity with Cabernet Sauvignon barrel

A winery in western Australia has raised HK$300,000 for charity after donating a 225 litre barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon to an auction in Hong Kong.

The barrel, which contained Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from western Australia’s Margaret River, will go on to be bottled as Howard Park’s Leston Cabernet Sauvignon.

It achieved the highest bid of the evening at the recent OneSky 2019 Charity gala in Hong Kong on 1 June, raising HK$300,000 (approx. AU$55,000).

The new owner will now get a say on how the wine is bottled, choosing whether the size of bottles from 750ml, 1.5 litre, 3 litre or more, according to Howard Park owner Amy Burch.

“As well as the usual label, each bottle will bear the name of the purchaser, giving them a truly limited edition wine.” said Burch.

One Sky is a global NGO founded by Jenny Bowen which helps communities and caregivers to provide responsive care to vulnerable children worldwide.

Chloe Taylor, the charity’s chief engagement officer, said the night was the “culmination of so much hard work and generosity. OneSky is blessed to have so many good friends.”
