Auction Napa Valley raises $12m for charity

The annual Auction Napa Valley has raised US$12 million for charitable causes in the local community.

Held last weekend at the Meadowood Resort, the evening featured a live set by Katy Perry as well as the chance for bidders to get their hands on exclusive lots of wines and luxury dinners, excursions and wine-themed holidays all over the world.

Now in its 39th year, the auction has raised a total of $185m for various charities with this year’s proceeds going to community health and children’s education organisations.

The evening’s very first lot of the night, an Italian wine tour hosted by Continuum Estate and the Mondavi family, went for over $500,000.

But the evening’s highest bid was $620,000 for the “Ducks and Dolphins” trip taking the successful bidders on a three-part wildlife trip from Canada to Hawaii which was offered by Labry Estate, Sandi and John Thompson and Staglin Family Vineyard.

Exclusive visits to estates such as Opus One, Silver Oak Cellars, Dalla Valle Vineyards, Staglin Family Vineyard likewise went for hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece.

Earlier in the weekend the Gallo-owned Louis M Martini Winery had played host to a barrel auction featuring 114 lots.
