London Wine Fair to feature ‘Extreme Tasting Challenge’

The London Wine Fair has joined forces with The Wine Gang to launch a new competition designed to rigorously test a contestant’s wine palate – ‘The Extreme Tasting Challenge.’

The competition will require entrants to answer a series of palate-challenging questions devised by The Wine Gang, on selected wines from 10 exhibitors (one per stand), spanning all sections of the show.

Visitors – and exhibitors – who wish to participate can collect an Extreme Tasting Challenge card from the entrance lobby; contestants will need to answer specific questions such as identifying an obscure grape variety or a winemaking technique.

Cards will be stamped at each of the stands and completed cards must be delivered back to the lobby by the end of the show.

The lucky overall winner will receive a £1,000 cash prize, to be announced at the LWF by The Wine Gang themselves. In addition, contestants may qualify for a pair of tickets to The Wine Gang’s Summer event, a Jeroboam of Barossa-based Rogers and Rufus or a magnum of the rare Artemis Karamolegos’s ‘Pyritis’ from Santorini (only eight exist in the U.K.).

The winner will also be featured in a dedicated article and interview for the Gang’s website.

Participants in the challenge include: ABS; Buckingham Schenk; Croatian Fine Wines; Richmond Wine Agencies/Ellis Wines; Frederic Robinson and the WSTA.

The London Wine Fair 2019 will take place between Monday, 20 and Wednesday, 22 May.
