Disznókő launches fourth vintage of ‘Kapi’

Tokaj estate Disznókő has released the 2015 vintage of its single vineyard Aszú wine ‘Kapi’ – just the fourth vintage released so far.

Sourced from a single site within the estate’s vineyards, just 4,991 bottles of the 2015 vintage have been made.

The wine is 100% Furmint, grown on lighter volcanic soils that are “rich in minerals” and in a plot which ripens earlier than neighbouring sites.

The grapes are particularly susceptible to noble rot and their earlier ripening means they also retain high levels of acidity.

Picking for the 2015 began on 21 September and the first tranche lasted through to mid-October when rain halted picky until the end of the month.

Managing director László Mészáros, said: “Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos 2015 is typical of the very pure and transparent style with the acidity driven structure of the wines that we have released from Kapi before. But there is something extra: due to the very warm vegetative season we have more “sun” here.

“The wine is rounder, intensely fruity, with ripe acidity. 2015 has great aromatic complexity and the wine produced from Kapi combines the beautifully charming character of the vintage with the typical vertical mineral profile of Kapi Vineyard.

“The 2015 vintage brings a new dimension to the collection of our Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú wines, after 1999, 2005 and 2011.”
