Hilton is opening a new riverside ‘lifestyle hotel’ in Bordeaux

Hotel giant Hilton is debuting its millennial-targeting Canopy brand in France by opening two new hotels, one of which will be located in the centre of Bordeaux.

Canopy by Hilton Bordeaux Chartrons is slated to open in early 2021, while another branch in Paris will open in the same year.

The new-build property will be constructed in the Chartrons neighbourhood, overlooking the Garonne River, and will house multiple dining options, including a rooftop restaurant and bar, as well as a pool overlooking the river and Bordeaux’s city centre.

The hotel’s design will “draw on the area’s history as an industrial hub, made famous by its eponymous wine, which is produced in vineyards around the city,” according to Canopy by Hilton.

“Paris and Bordeaux are exceptional destinations, and these new hotels are meticulously designed to celebrate their respective neighbourhoods,” Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President, Development, EMEA, Hilton, said

“Hilton’s expansion in France is gaining further momentum, with plans to triple our portfolio in the next five years. The introduction of new brands including Canopy by Hilton is testament to the quality of partners we are working with to grow across the country.”

The Canopy by Hilton is the hotel firm’s “lifestyle” brand. Employees are called “enthusiasts” and beds have a “canopy” created by a grey headboard that reaches to the ceiling and overhangs. Employees of the month are rewarded with orange converse shoes, while some sites also have orange bicycles for guests to use, according to the Boston Globe.

Canopy first opened sites in the US and Reykjavik, Iceland. This will be Hilton’s first venture into France with the Canopy hotel brand.
