Playboy wine released to mark empire’s 65th year

Playboy has launched a branded red wine in partnership with US retailer Lot18 to mark its 65th year – a milestone that was reached in 2018.

Playboy California Red Wine Blend

The ‘Playboy California Red Wine’ is a Californian red blend described as “robust and intriguing” with “ripe, luscious flavours of cherry and dark fruits are laced with vanilla and spice” on the palate with “well-integrated toasted oak nuances on the finish”.

Released ahead of Valentine’s Day, the 13.9% wine features a label depicting the iconic Playboy Bunny Costume, designed by Playboy illustrator and designer, Katie Bailie.

Playboy was founded in 1953 by the late Hugh Heffner, who died in September 2017, and has since spawned a global lifestyle and media that includes the Playboy Magazine, clubs and events.

Sales of Playboy magazine peaked in 1972 at over 7 million copies, but by 2015 the circulation had fallen to 800,000. Today, the company derives much of its revenue from its media division, and from the licensing of its brand for use in consumer products.

The limited edition wine is available exclusively through LOT18.com at US$25 a bottle.
