Metallica and Stone Brewing launch beer
Heavy metal icons Metallica and California’s Stone Brewing have released a new beer which will launch in the US this week, and internationally in spring when the band sets out on its 2019 European tour.
Enter Night has been brewed in partnership with the band and Arrogant Consortia, a subsidiary of Stone Brewing, named after a lyric in the 1991 track Enter Sandman.
The beer is a 5.7% Pilsner and is said to represent the “cataclysmic collision of two uncompromising supernatural forces” that transcends “genres, shatters preconceptions and challenges convention”.
“The amount of ideals and outlooks that Metallica and Stone Brewing share are endless,” said drummer Lars Ulrich in an interview with USA Today. “I’m always blown away about how similar our paths forward have been. Our view of the worlds that we each inhabit, of creativity and process, and sense of place in relation to our peers and ‘The Man’ are almost identical. This collaboration is beyond effortless and pure, and we can’t wait to share this incredible beverage with everyone out there.”
Metallica have already released a “sound-aged” American whisky called Blackened after the song of the same name on their 1988 album Justice for All. The band used a unique, patent-pending “sonic enhancement” process known as ‘Black Noise’ to “shape” the whiskey’s flavour, which involved using custom playlists of Metallica’s music – a different one for each batch – during the distilling process.
Enter Night will be available in stores and concert venues visited by Metallica during its 2018 tour, and will now also be sold nationally throughout the US, and in Europe starting this spring when the band plays there.
