New MWs inaugurated

The 14 latest MWs were officially welcomed to the institute at an awards ceremony in London this week.

As well as being formally inducted as Masters of Wine, several of the former students were given awards by Supporters of the IMW for their performance at various stages of the study programme.

Nicolas Quillé MW earned three awards: the Villa Maria Prize for his outstanding knowledge of viticulture, the Errazuriz Award for his performance in the Business of Wine exam and the Robert Mondavi Award for his performance in all of the theory papers.

Lindsay Pomeroy MW meanwhile received two awards. First of all, for her tasting ability she was awarded the Bollinger Medal and then the Austrian Wine Marketing Board’s Outstanding Achievement Award for her overall performance across all areas of the MW examination.

Tim Tiptree MW was the recipient of The Noval Award for the best research paper (on the use of reserve wines in brut NV Champagne) and Job de Swart received the Taransaud Tonnellerie Award for his excellent knowledge of wine production and handling.

Adrian Garforth MW, Chairman of the IMW said, “It’s an honour to officially welcome the 2018 vintage to our membership. The awards ceremony is a special day in the IMW calendar, as Masters of Wine fly in from around the world to join the new Masters of Wine, their family and friends, to celebrate their outstanding achievement.”
