Geneva sale sets new Christie’s record

Christie’s has achieved its highest annual set of results in Geneva in five years after a fine wine sale in the Swiss city at the weekend.

The auctioneer held its last Geneva sale of the year on 11 November, which totalled CHF2.8 million (US$2.8m/€2.5m/£2.2m). In total, the house’s Swiss sales have realised CHF7.1m (£5.5m).

The sale was led by an imperial of 1989 Petrus (CHF54,000) which was also a new record for Christie’s, as well as another imperial of the 1990 (the same price) and six bottles of the 1945 (CHF38,400).

Another 12 bottles of assorted 1996 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti likewise made CHF54,000 and a full case of 1969 Romanée-Conti went for CHF34,800.

Otherwise, there was strong bidding for Corton-Charlemagne from Coche-Dury, five bottles of the 2005 and six bottles of the 2009 making CHF28,800 apiece.

Old and rare Champagne and Madeira was on offer too, notably Krug’s 1995 Clos d’Ambonnay and 1795 Madeira.
