Principal of WSET leaves to set up own academy

The principal of the WSET London School has stepped down from his position with plans to establish his own academy that will support students studying for their diploma through bespoke masterclasses.

Given Jim Gore’s experience with the WSET, his new venture, The Global Wine Academy, will have a specific focus on helping WSET Diploma Students pass their exams, offering revision tasting masterclasses for WSET Diploma Students aligned to the three sections of the Diploma – fortified wines, sparkling wines and wines of the world.

Based in London, each session will be scheduled ahead of the WSET’s exams, with students able to take advantage of extra study sessions and additional training with Gore.

“Students are always most anxious about the tasting exams, so we will be helping them prepare to achieve the very best they can,” said Gore, announcing the launch of his venture in a release this morning. “Students began booking the very first day our new website went live, so it seems there is strong demand for the unique support I can offer.

“I’m looking forward to working with small groups of keen students to explore, analyse and assess eighteen wines in each full-day masterclass. We will be improving tasting skills, sharpening aroma and flavour identification and honing exam technique to maximise marks. The day will give us plenty of time to ensure everyone’s palate is calibrated to the Diploma standard and each student will be able to address areas they find especially challenging or tricky.”
