Vinexpo kicks off in Hong Kong

Vinexpo CEO Guillaume Deglise kicked off Vinexpo Hong Kong 2018 yesterday (29 May) at an opening ceremony, welcoming more than 17,000 professional visitors from around 50 countries as well as 1,465 exhibitors from around the globe to the 20th edition of the fair.

The trade fair, hailed as the most influential wine show in the Asia Pacific region, will run from 29 to 31 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wan Chai.

At the opening ceremony, Deglise was accompanied by guests of honour Edward Yau, secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Hong Kong SAR; Joe Wong, commissioner for Tourism, Hong Kong SAR; and Peter Lam Kin-Ngok, GBS chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board as well as Patrick Seguin, president of Vinexpo’s Executive Board and chairman of the Bordeaux-Gironde Chamber of Commerce Vinexpo.

This year, Australia has been chosen as Country of Honour and to celebrate this accolade, Australian Government Senator The Hon. Anne Ruston, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources attended the opening of the show as well.

Vinexpo Hong Kong 2018 will welcome more than 17,000 professional visitors from around 50 countries as well as 1,465 exhibitors. There are also 305 entirely new exhibitors attending the three-day trade show.

Wine Australia also unveiled a new campaign to drive international demand for Australian wines, with a pavilion hosting 151 exhibitors, showcasing 225 wine brands from 51 wine regions.

Wine Australia chief executive Andreas Clark said the targeted campaign is a key part of the Australian Government’s AU$50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package that aims to raise the perception and demand for Australian wine in key export markets – including China and the US.

Australia is also presenting a packed three-day programme of education, master classes and exclusive tastings showcasing the talent of Australian winemakers – with more than 1,400 wines being showcased.

In addition, this year the trade fair welcomed for the first time the a focused exhibition featuring organic and biodynamic producers at WOW! in Hong Kong, following their debut in Vinexpo Bordeaux last year.
