Pol Roger Lodge

Kick off London Wine Week in style with a flute of one of Champagne’s finest fizzes – Pol Roger.

The family-owned house has set up a pop-up lodge in Flat Iron Square, which will showcase its sparklers and also the still reds and whites in the Pol Roger UK portfolio, including Burgundian producer Joseph Drouhin, California’s Robert Sinskey Vineyards and Staglin Family Vineyard, and Josmeyer from Alsace.

If you time it right, you might be there when they pop open a Pol Roger Jero. Best of all, each of the wines will cost just £5 a glass.

Sparkling wine tasting at The Whisky Exchange

Join Master of Wine, Dawn Davies as she introduces some of the top sparklers from around the world at this one-off tasting at The Whisky Exchange.

Among the fizzes on pour will be a single vineyard blanc de blancs – Kit’s Coty from Kent producer Chapel Down, which can proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with its Champagne equivalents.

Flying the flat for Champagne will be Ayala Brut Majeur and AR Lenoble Les Aventures Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne, while Perrier-Jouët Blason Rosé will keep pink fanatics happy.

Hoping the smash stereotypes, Davies will be pouring top Cava Raventos i Blanc De Nit Rose 2015, and there’s even a sparkling Shiraz in the mix.

Berry Bros & Rudd Tap & Bottle Bar 

While it’s one of the oldest and best loved wine merchants in the UK, Berry Bros & Rudd doesn’t shy away from innovation. Keen to prove that the fine wine specialist is down with the kids, the historic shop will be hosting a pop-up Tap & Bottle Bar at Flat Iron Square on Tuesday and Wednesday during London Wine Week.

You’ll be able to try a range of drops from BBR’s extensive portfolio both by the glass and bottle, including wine flights for inquisitive oenophiles, with special offers available for LWW festival pass holders.

Freixenet Vintage Van

Spanish wine giant Freixenet will be roaring into town in its bespoke vintage van, which will park up at Flat Iron Square during London Wine Week.

Rosé fans are in luck as the producer will be promoting its latest drop – a sparkling rosé from Italy housed in a fetching cut crystal bottle. The white van will also be serving a selection of sparklers from the Freixenet range.

White Port and tonic at Bar Douro

Forget vermouth, the refreshing sip of the summer is set to be white Port and tonic – GQ have hailed it the new G&T – so head down to Bar Douro in Flat Iron Square and see what all the fuss is about.

With a lower ABV than gin and vodka, white Port and tonic makes for an ideal post-work apéritif during these lovely long lit evenings. Head to the Graham’s Port bar for a Churchills white Port, tonic, orange peel and a sprig of mint. There will also be the chance to try a selection of aged Tawny Ports from Jeroboams.

Muscadet mobile

Having long languished in the shadows, Muscadet has emerged in recent years as a surprise hipster favourite. The crisp, fresh, easy-drinking Loire white will be taking centre stage at Flat Iron Square during London Wine Week with via the Muscadet Mobile.

A clutch of Muscadet makers will be on hand to talk you through their wines and suggest perfect food pairing for each.

“May is Loire month in London and we are looking forward to taking over the capital for London Wine Week to create informative, convivial, accessible and high-quality moments, which reflect the spirit of the Loire Valley,” said Claire Duchene, communication director for Loire Valley Wines.

Muga dinner at Aqua Nueva

Revered family-owned Rioja estate Muga will be hosting a swanky five-course dinner at Aqua Nueva in Oxford Cirus on Thursday where a different Muga wine will be paired with each dish created by head chef Yahir González.

Taking place in the private dining room, among the dishes on offer will be Devon crab with Avruga caviar and avocado paired with Muga Blanco; grilled white asparagus with Manchego custard and shaved black truffle paired Muga Rosé Rioja; and roasted quail, salt baked beetroot and blackberries paired with Muga Reserva.

Loire Valley Wines dinner at Coya Angel Court 

Another hot dinner ticket this week is Loire Valley Wines’ Peruvian odyssey at Coya Angel Court, where a group of cherry-picked Loire producers will be pairing their wines with Peruvian dishes created specifically to match with their flavour profile.

On the food front, expect the likes of yellowtail tiradito, courgette ceviche, baby squid, sea bass croquettes, josper rib-eye and coconut mousse.

Royal Wedding screening

For those seeking a big screen to enjoy the royal wedding on Saturday, Flat Iron Square is a good shout, as you can nip between the bars while you’re waiting for Megan to emerge in her eagerly awaited dress while Harry waits in the wings.

The London Wine Week hub will be screening full coverage of the event all afternoon, starting with the ceremony at Windsor Castle at noon followed by their carriage procession around Windsor Town – sorry to disappoint those keen to catch a glimpse of the FA Cup final.

Sticking with the royal theme, the square will also play host to a quintessentially British antiques market full of vintage trinkets to peruse while you sip your English sparkling wine, or Earl Grey if you’re off the sauce…

Pikes takeover at Renegade

Achingly hip urban winery Renegade London in Bethnal Green has teamed up with Australian winery Pikes in the Clare Valley for a one-day takeover in celebration of London Wine Week. The winemaking team have jetted over to Blighty and will be on hand on Saturday to pour their razor-sharp Rieslings and ravishing reds.
