Lanson musical gift box wins design award

Champagne Lanson’s innovative musical gift boxes scooped the top prize in the Best New Product Packaging category at the DFNI Global Awards in London last week.

Celebrating excellence in travel retail, the awards took place at the DFNI Charity Ball at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London last Friday.

Sold with Lanson’s White, Black and Rosé labels, the metal boxes contain a slot for a smartphone on the lid, meaning that they double as speakers.

Lanson beat off competition from new packaging innovations from Toblerone, Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Greenall’s Extra Reserve to win the award.

The White label box is sold exclusively at Sainsbury’s, while the Black and Rosé musical boxes were sold on a limited promotion at Selfridge’s.

Targeted at the travel retail sector, they also went on sale at Paris, Nice and Brussels airports.

This isn’t their first award – the quirky boxes picked up the top prize in the metal category at Luxe Pack Monaco last year.

“Just under half of Champagne purchases are to give to someone as a gift. We hope that our new musical gift boxes will exceed expectations,” said Paul Beavis, managing director of Champagne Lanson UK & International, when the boxes launched last year.

The DFNI Ball raised £24,000 for children’s education charity the Akanksha Foundation through donations, games and auctions on the night.
