Welsh brewery Tiny Rebel launches gaming app

Newport-based brewer Tiny Rebel has launched a free video gaming app called Beer Money Inc. which allows users to brew and sell virtual beer, hire staff and buy a brewery.

Beer Money is inspired by Tiny Rebel’s own journey, from a brewing kit in a garage to owning a new £2.6m purpose-built brewery in Rogerstone.

The app is inspired by one of co-founder Bradley Cummings’ favourite games, Drugwars. It lets you select a site, buy ingredients for the brewing process, brew virtual beer and then sell it to customers.

The aim is to make a profit from the beer sales and to use the money to upgrade your brewery, buy ingredients and hire staff.

The final level on the game lets you brew all of of Tiny Rebel’s collaborative beers that were released last week.

The project has been mastermind by Cummings’ brother, Lee, and sister-in-law, Susan, who together run Tiny Rebel Studios and are best known for producing games for the BBC Doctor Who series.

The app has taken six months to develop, with artwork supplied by the brewery’s creative director Tamsin Baker, and is free to purchase from the App Store and Google Play.

In December last year, the Portman Group upheld a complaint over the artwork on a can of Tiny Rebel Brewing’s Cwtch Welsh red ale, stating that it breached guidelines by holding particular appeal to those aged under 18.

In 2016, it announced that it was constructing a new brewery in Newport which enabled it to increase its output to 5 million litres annually, equating to nearly 9 million pints.
