Former Prime Minister and accidental Brexit masterminder David Cameron is charging wealthy business figures in China £12,000 for dinner and a selfie.

Cameron appeared on social media adverts for the Shangai International Ball and Leaders Forum which took place earlier this week, touting his company for cold hard cash.

Cameron’s photo was shown alongside a price in Chinese renminbi for dinner and a photograph.

BBC China correspondent Robin Brant posted the advert to Twitter, where, unsurprisingly, it was roundly mocked.

“Before some smarty pants got us into Brexit it would only have cost about £11,000,” said Guardian reporter Tom Phillips.

“Is he a gigolo now?” asked Imelda Finnerty.

Meanwhile, others suggested they would be more inclined to dine with the former PM if they were being paid the £12,000 instead.

A spokesman for Cameron told the BBC the event advertised in the post was actually the Global Alliance of SMEs’ Women Leaders Forum.

However, he did not comment on the advertised pricetag.

Cameron is currently in China to meet President Xi Jinping, with the goal of launching a new investment fund aimed at boosting trade links.
