BIVB’s Bourgogne Week returns to HK to highlight ‘limited’ 2016 vintage

The Bourgogne Week organised by the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) is returning to Hong Kong from 26 Feb to 2 March, highlighting the latest 2016 vintage.

The 2016 vintage in Burgundy is extremely limited in production with the region hit by devastating spring frosts and ensuing mildew. Chablis in particular was hit the hardest by the cold snap.

As a result, Burgundy’s production volume only totalled at 1.223 million hectoliters, or just over 163 million bottles, around 20% below the 10-year average, according to the BIVB.

Nonetheless, the quality of the vintage turned out to be a “pleasant surprise”. An earlier UK trade tasting confirmed that 2016 is a classic vintage, especially for its reds despite limited quantities, reported by db.

The one-week event will include its flagship “One Day for Bourgogne Wines” tasting where importers, sommeliers and media will get a chance to taste the limited 2016 vintage before its official market release in May. A few wines from 2015 and 2014 will also be on pour.

In addition to the one day tasting, BIVB will roll out the annual Chablis White Cocktail party, highlighting different Chablis appellations across several vintages.

Throughout the month, BIVB will make a huge push for Borgogne wines through social media campaigns via the hashtag #BourgogneWeek.
