Florida breweries create Krispy Kreme donut-flavoured beer as strong as wine

Two microbreweries have joined forces to create a beer that captures the essence of the humble Krispy Kreme donut.

Hidden Spring Ale Works and Arkane Aleworks, two popular microbreweries in Florida, USA, have partnered to devise the donut-y drink.

Hidden Spring posted a photo to its Facebook page of their unique brewing process, which involves throwing sweet nuggets of glazed goodness into the beer during the brewing process.

The donut pieces will be used to make a Russian Imperial Stout, with an eye-watering expected 12.5% ABV.

The breweries are testing out infusions with Kreme-filled donuts, as well as the iconic glazed variety.

Hidden Springs founder Josh Garman told the Tampa Bay Times that he hopes the new imperial stout will “get some of the glaze from the Krispy Kremes to come through.”

He added that the new brew, which will be as strong as most wines, will have a “roasty, chocolaty flavour, hopefully with some donut”

Though the two breweries aren’t working directly with Krispy Kreme, Garman said they did reach out to the confectionary giant for their permission.

The beer, which has yet to be named, will be available both in bottles and on draught at Hidden Spring’s taphouse.
