Burgundy drives fine wine in November

The Liv-ex 1000 index gained nearly 3% in November led by the Burgundy 150 which continued its powerful drive as the index overall hit yet another record high.

Gaining 2.8% last month, the index (the broadest measure of the secondary fine wine market) hit yet another all-time high – one of several it has managed to reach over the last 18 months.

Within the constituent parts of the index, it was the Burgundy 150 that forged the strongest path, gaining 8.8%. It is up nearly 24% over the year-to-date.

In fact, nearly all of the sub-indices rose last month with the exception of the Champagne 50 which declined a small 0.72%, although none of the gains came anywhere close to matching those of Burgundy.

The entire index is up just over 11% on the year-to-date and 36% over five years and with a gain of 71% the Burgundy 150 is also the best-performing sub-index over this longer period.

The Fine Wine 100 also rose last month (as was reported yesterday) with Burgundy labels being among the strongest individual performing wine labels.
