On Saturday, George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman hosted the annual Casamigos Tequila Halloween party in LA. Following the same of Casamigos this year, Clooney had reassured fans that he and Gerber were “not going anywhere” after the deal.

The theme this year was the 1970s with attendees sporting both the hair and the flares worn in the era.

Guests included reality TV star Kim Kardashian who attended the party alongside fellow star Jonathan Cheban. They were joined by actor, filmmaker, comedian, and singer Seth MacFarlane.

Away from Los Angeles in the slightly cooler climes of St Andrews in Scotland, Luvians bottle shop hosted an in-store cycling competition in partnership with Glenmorangie and Renovo Hardwood Bicycles. Punters had the chance to ride the world’s first whisky cask bicycle with the chance to win a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet, worth £134.99.

The bottle went to Joe Slater, a University of St Andrews Philosophy PhD student.

The bike was set up in store with competitors attempting to clock one mile in under three minutes. Wearing sunglasses was recommended…

England’s reigning Premiership Rugby champions, Exeter Chiefs, and one of Devon’s Otter Brewery are joining forces to help raise money for this year’s Poppy Appeal. During the Exeter’s Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Northampton Saints on 4 November, 5p from every pint of ‘Hiawotter’ (the resident Otter beer at Sandy Park) sold across all of the bars will go to the Poppy Appeal.

Brigid Simmonds, CEO of the British Beer and Pub Association headed to Downing Street alongside three other CEOs: Rick Bailey of Thwaites Pubs, Charles Wells of Wells Brewery and William Robinson of Robinsons Brewery.

Les Vignobles Foncalieu marked its 50th anniversary at the end of October with a tour of its vineyards in the Languedoc in retro Citroen 2CVs, followed by a fantastic party in the historic city of Carcassonne, hosted by its president Michel Servage.

Les Vignobles Foncalieu was formed in 1967 when it just had 300ha of vines. Now, 50 years later, the co-operative’s family is a big one, with over 650 winegrowers and around 4,000 hectares of vines.

 

Meanwhile in Liverpool, whiskey-maker Jack Daniel’s is is partnering with The Liverpool Sessions to launch its annual UK mixology competition, “Tennessee Calling.”

London Cocktail Club co-founder, JJ Goodman, head bartender at The Savoy’s American Bar Erik Lorincz, and Jack Daniel’s UK brand ambassador, Cam Dawson, will host seminars focusing on three key themes – entrepreneurialism, creativity and quality. Next, bartenders from across the North West enter by creating their own drinks based on what they’ve learnt.

The three chosen finalists, who will be selected by a panel of experts, will win a trip to the home of Jack Daniel’s, Lynchburg Tennessee, before hosting their own event at New York’s The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog.

New Zealand Wines held its New Release event on Thursday 2 November at New Zealand House. The day saw 135 New Zealand Wines on show, all newly released vintages.

Masi’s head winemaker Andrea Dal Cin came to London on Thursday this week to show UK press and somms the influence of the producer’s patented appassimento process on the native grapes of Valpolicella. Included in the tasting, which took place in London’s Café Murano, were back vintages of Masi’s Campofiorin, including a superb expression from 1993.

Flint Wines took 9 sommeliers from London top restaurants to Burgundy this week– visiting 13 wineries in 2 days.

They were taken on tours of the vineyards and given detailed and extensive tastings of the tiny 2016 vintage, as well as older vintages.

After a long day on the road, they let off steam in at the local restaurants…
