Nebuchadnezzar of Yquem and SQN collection headline Sotheby’s luxury sale

Auctioneer Sotheby’s is launching a series of auctions this winter entitled ‘A Life of Luxury’ with a fine wine sale kicking things off next month boasting a line-up that includes a Nebuchadnezzar of 2013 Yquem among other rarities.

Taking place in New York on 2 December, the sale will feature a range of wines that span not only the world and a wide array of vintages but also formats from half bottle to Nebuchadnezzar.

A total of 1,036 lots will go on sale with a pre-sale estimate of US$1.9 million to $2.7m and one consignment is being sold to benefit The Frederic Roberts Foundation while another includes the largest selection of Sine Qua Non wines ever offered by the house.

Burgundy and Champagne heavy collections will open the auction with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti spanning four decades and “historic” vintages of Armand Rousseau leading the way.

Another top collection afterwards includes “mini-verticals” of Haut-Brion Blanc, Krug Clos du Mesnil, Coche-Dury and Masseto as well as imperials of 2005 Cheval Blanc and 2011 Petrus and a Nebuchadnezzar of 2013 Yquem.

Wines being sold to benefit The Frederic Roberts Foundation is rather more claret-forward, featuring many cases of wines from the 2000 vintage such as Haut-Brion and Mouton Rothschild and Palmer dating back to 1982.

Drawn from several collections, the sale is also the largest gathering of wines from California’s Sine Qua Non that Sotheby’s has ever offered.

Notable lots include The Duel Eleven Confessions Vineyard Syrah & Grenache 2008 in double magnums, nine bottles each of the Piranha Waterdance Syrah and Shakti Grenache 2014 as well as bottles of 1995 Red Handed and The Other Hand and a magnum of 2000 The Hussy.

Lasting from 30 November to 7 December, the series of sales of which the above wine auction is a part will also span other luxury items including jewellery, watches and vintage cars.
