Hoppy Christmas: A brewery in Wales has created a beer advent calendar

As big online retailers and grocery giants are capitalising on the popularity of alcoholic advent calendars, one brewery in Wales is using the format to celebrate small businesses.

Bang-On Brewery in Glamorgan, Bridgend, is selling beer advent calendars which showcase a wide range of drinks from the country’s independent brewers.

Each of the 24 doors hides either a different Bang-On Brewery beer, or one of a selection of bottles from other Welsh based craft breweries carefully chosen by the team at Bang-On.

Other local drinks makers represented in the calendar include Grey Trees in Aberdare, Pontypridd’s Otley Brewing, and vegan beer producers Mad Dog in Pontypool.

The advent calendar, which retails at £69.99 and can be ordered directly through the Bang-On, is believed to be the first of its kind to only stock Welsh beer.

Bang-On Brewery founder Neil Randle told Wales Online he felt it was “misleading to double up on our own product as an advent calendar is about receiving something different every day.

“As a result, I spoke to a number of other brewers in Wales to gage the interest and they all wanted to have their bottles included.”

“It’s a lovely way to showcase what is being produced in Wales at the moment which must be a good thing for the industry as a whole.”
