Macallan 1928 to lead Bonhams HK auction

A bottle of the Macallan 1928 50 year-old, with an estimate of HK$480,000-560,000 will go under hammer at Bonhams Fine Wine and Whisky Sale in Hong Kong next month.

The auction on 17 November will see a total of 575 lots on sale – 220 lots of wine and 355 lots of whisky – and is expected to reach an estimated total of at least HK$12 million.

Of all the whisky lots, more than 80 lots will feature vintage Macallan including the Macallan Lalique 57 year-old (HK$320,000-400,000).

Other highlights include a collection of old whisky bottled by the legendary bottler Silvano Samaroli from Italy with seven bottles estimated at HK$60,000-80,000, including Bowmore Dream 1984, Caol Ila Dreams-1990, Dailuaine Dreams 1975, Glenrothes Dreams 1969, Longrow Dreams 1987, Linkwood Dreams 1989, Mortlach Dreams 1989.

A Karuizawa collection from Karuizawa ex-whisky Master Osami Uchibori includes a miniature bottle of a Karuizawa-1960 47 year-old (HK$30,000-40,000) and a bottle of Karuizawa-1960 47 year-old (HK$140,000-180,000).

In addition, a bottle of pre-Prohibition Old Rip Van Winkle 1916 will be on offer. Distilled in 1916 it is expected to fetch HK$60,000-80,000. According to the tax stamp on its shoulder, the barrel was aged in the Bonded Warehouse No.3 of Missouri State until it was bottled in 1934.

Daniel Lam, Bonhams head of Fine Wine and Whisky in Hong Kong, said: “The upcoming November auction comprises a variety of fine wine, old single malt and rare Japanese Whisky to accommodate a range of buyers, and we anticipate strong market interest in the old vintages Macallan and the Karuizawa collection from Mr. Uchibori.”

For wines, highlights include a selection of wine features six bottles in original wooden case of Dom Pérignon Œnothèque 1969 (HK$62,000-78,000) and a bottle of Romanée Conti, DRC (HK$78,000-88,000) from the private collection of a Hong Kong collector.

Bordeaux first growths Château Latour 2007 and Château Margaux 2007 will also go under the hammer.
