Fund set up to support Sonoma’s fire victims

The Sonoma County Community Foundation has set up a ‘Resilience Fund’ with a lead donation of $250,000 from Facebook to provide shelter and food directly to those affected by the devastating fires in the region.

According to information updated yesterday on the Sonoma County Community Foundation website, the fires have led to 22 deaths in the county, while 6,700 structures have been destroyed, and the region has suffered more than $3 billion in losses.

Furthermore, as many as 100,000 people have been displaced from their homes, and countless numbers of people have lost absolutely everything.

Importantly, any monies donated to the Resilience Fund will go directly to those affected by the fires in Sonoma County.

As the site states, “While this disaster has been chaotic, the response should not be. With 34 years of experience in philanthropy, we know how to make strategic and impactful grants to support the well-being of our community. To date we’ve given out more than $200 million dollars to Sonoma County organizations addressing issues such as housing, hunger, economic well-being and mental health.

Continuing, it notes, “Recovery from these fires will take years, and we’re committed to this community for the long term. We have launched the Sonoma County Resilience Fund to address the mid to long-term needs of those impacted by these devastating fires.”
