Gruaud Larose best-performing claret this year

So far this year the best-performing Bordeaux label on Liv-ex has been Saint Julien second growth Gruaud Larose.

Looking at the performance of individual labels on the Bordeaux 500 index so far this year, the second growth has seen its sub-index (based on the performance of the 10 most recent physical vintages) rise 15%, as has that of Lafite’s second wine, Carruades.

The second wines of Mouton Rothschild, Haut-Brion and Margaux are also among the top 10 best-performers, with Petit Mouton’s index up 11%, Pavilon Rouge’s rising 10% and Clarence de Haut-Brion up 9%.

Also up were two Sauternes labels; Yquem (10%) and Riuessec (9%).

Unfortunately, it is also a Sauternes label that is the worst-performer at the moment, Climens, down -6%.

Three of the first growths are also all down in the worst-performing end of the table. Although four of the second labels (all except Forts de Latour which was up 6.3%) have managed gains the first wines of Mouton, Haut-Brion and Latour have seen their indices rise by just 2%.

Margaux has done marginally better with a 3% rise and Lafite is up 5.7%.
