German wine exports to China reach record high

German wine exports to China have hit a record high, as shown by the latest figures released by Deutesches Weininstitut GmbH, suggesting Chinese consumers are increasingly interested in the country’s wines.

Germany’s total exports to China amounted to 3.7 million litres, worth about €16 million, over the past year from May 2016 to May 2017.

The export volumes represented a year-on-year increase of 27.3%, while the total value also climbed 23.6% over the same period, making China Germany’s fourth largest wine export market.

Of all Germany’s wine exports, China accounted for 5.6% of Germany’s total export value and 37.3% of the total volume.

Despite the increase, however, Germany is not among China’s top 10 wine importing countries.
