Michel and Alain Roux to open Buckinghamshire restaurant

Michel Roux Sr and his son Alain have announced plans to open a new UK restaurant within a residential development in Buckinghamshire, close to their three-Michelin-starred Waterside Inn restaurant in Berkshire.

The restaurant, called Roux at Skindles, will form part of a new development called Taplow Riverside, situated on a site once occupied by Skindles hotel.

The upmarket development, located in the village of Taplow in Buckinghamshire, will comprise 139 residential properties and a 60-unit care home, alongside the new Roux restaurant.

Set to open in autumn 2018, Roux at Skindles will be overseen by Alain Roux, who is chef-patron at the Waterside Inn, and will feature a brasserie menu that promises to offer a more informal dining experience compared with its sister site.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Roux Sr said it was the developments idyllic location that had attracted him to the project.

“It will be totally different to our other establishments,” he said. “It has the best location on the river, will overlook a beautiful bridge and have a lovely terrace. Everything must be the best. A place can have an idyllic location but still lack soul – it needs to have the right vibe.”

The Roux family’s restaurant portfolio already contains the two-Michelin-starred Le Gavroche in London, which is run by Roux Sr’s nephew Michel Roux Jr, Roux at Parliament Square in Westminster and most recently The Wigmore at the Langham – an upmarket gastropub which was opened last month by Michel Roux Jr.
