TWE appoints Tom King as new Europe md

Treasury Wine Estates has appointed Tom King as its Europe managing director following the untimely death of Dan Townsend last week.

King, who joined the business in 2013 as the commercial director for Global Travel Retail, heads up the Australian wine giant’s Global Travel Retail and On-trade business, having previously been responsible for TWE’s Central and Eastern European business. Prior to joining the company, he worked in a series of senior roles at Bacardi Limited, including as Global Travel Retail finance director, and before that at Ernst & Young and Arthur Andersen in London.

Treasury Wine Estates Chief Executive Officer, Michael Clarke said King was an experienced senior sales executive who had positioned TWE as a category leader in the Global Travel Retail channel over the last four years.

“Tom’s strength is building strong relationships across a wide spectrum of customers as well as developing high performing teams. This appointment will ensure that our team in Europe will have continued stability and strong senior leadership,” he said in a statement.

The company also announced Barry Galloway, currently director global customers – on-premise, would become the global travel retail business, based in Hong Kong.

A key part of Galloway’s role will be to drive stronger customer partnerships in the growing Asia-Pacific region for TWE, the company said.

The shuffle follows the untimely death of managing director Dan Townsend last week.

Townsend, who had thirty years experience in the drinks industry including executive roles at Matthew Clark, Constellation Europe and Louis Latour, had worked at the Australian drinks company for the last six years, first as general manager for the UK and Western Europe and from April last year, as managing director for Europe.
