Sotheby’s announces first 2017 sale

Featuring more than 900 lots estimated between HK$20-27 million (US$2.5-3.5 million), Sotheby’s next Hong Kong sale will be on 21 January, the auction house has announced.

What everyone wants? Mouton Rothschild 1945 and Cheval Blanc 1947

Making up the second part of the Connoisseur’s Cellar, the auction will see some of the most classic vintages of sought-after labels, including Mouton Rothschild 1945 and Cheval Blanc 1947.

There will also be the chance for bidders to get their hands on two bottles of Echézeaux 1980 Henri Jayer, estimated between HK$140,000-200,000 (US$18,000-24,000), one bottle of Nuits St. Georges, Les Meurgers 1978 Henri Jayer estimated between HK$38,000-55,000 (US$4,800-7,000) and one bottle of Vosne Romanée, Les Brûlées 1980 Henri Jayer estimated between HK$20,000-26,000 (US$2,400-3,200) – proving once again that aged Burgundy is still on everyone’s wish lists.

Other offerings include one bottle of The Dalmore Constellation 42 Years 1969, estimated between HK$140,000-$200,000 (US$18,000-24,000) and one imperial of Masseto 1998, estimated between HK$45,000-60,000 (US$5,500-7,500).

Adam Bilbey, head of Sotheby’s wine Asia, said: “We are thrilled to be offering the second installment of The Connoisseur’s Cellar which is a sensational collection from one of our most knowledgeable clients. The Mouton Rothschild 1945 and Cheval Blanc 1947 are both true treasures in this sale and are extremely rare to come by.

“Whether seeking a magnum to share in celebration with friends and family or an iconic wine from Romanée-Conti and Henri Jayer to take pride of place in the cellar, collectors will discover the offerings they seek at a range of price points in this comprehensive sale.”
