Man reviews beer through the power of lego

What could be better than beer? Beer and lego of course. The aptly named Beer Farts is an ingeniously simple Instagram account that reviews beer through the medium of lego.

Capturing craft brews alongside an appropriately humorous lego-based scene, the account now has nearly 30,000 followers.

Its creator, Tom Delcourt, said the idea was “quite accidental”, speaking to The Londonist, explaining that he had been bought a lego set as a joke and decided to picture it alongside a beer he happened to be drinking at the time.

“So many of my friends liked the post I did it again, and it went from there,” he said. “Here I am now with a kitchen full of beer and a living room full of Lego.”

The playful scenes accompanying each beer take inspiration from the name and design of each brew, with a lego character seemingly available to fit every occasion, from zombies and extraterrestrials to The Beatles, along with some notes on the beer’s flavour profile.

For example, this Garden of Eden watercolour-painted fruit IPA (left) comes from Denmark’s To Øl brewery. Picturing the arty can with a bearded painter, Delcourt wrote: “In the Garden of Eden, while Eve was busy going crazy and talking to snakes, Adam kept himself entertained with abstract watercolour painting. This one is of the gardens on a sunny day.”

“Been in the backend of nowhere on the hunt for a redwood tree. Heard they were even better to use as a Christmas tree than fir trees. I was lied too. Redwoods are monsters. Took me all day to cut the bastards down and I can’t even use them. Rewarded myself with this fine brew. Smokey oak, plums, tart berries and grass combine with plenty of funky yeast to make this quite the reward.”

“Last Crimbo I discovered this toasty Porter worked brilliantly for dunking your gingerbread men in. This year I’ve gone one step further and added vanilla ice cream. All the creamy sweetness mixed in with the coffee and chocolate bitterness is awesome! Put down the eggnog and get yourself a float….and dunk your gingerbread man in for good measure.”

“Everything you’d expect from the name; juicy and bitter, crammed with orange and pine with hints of mango and caramel. Banging! Hearing a lot of great stuff about these guys so I’ll be on the hunt for more of their stuff very soon.”

“When his reindeer buggered off after he refused to share the cookies and milk with them, Santa knew he only had two choices; squeeze his fat ass down the chimney or attempt the 40 ft drop using the snowman to break his fall. Damn this reindeer. Not a new pale but solid one that I love to knock back. A zesty and slightly dank aroma of grapefruit, tangerine and pine that continues into the sweet taste with caramel and a pine finish.”

“Originally brewed as part of#CollabFest2016 in my typical fashion, I didn’t get around to trying it then so catching up with a bottle now. A solid stout full of coffee, dark chocolate and toffee with notes of cherry to add a sweetness. This did take me about 20 mins to pour as I had a glass that was full of head on first pour (you still see him lingering around). Slightly annoying but didn’t spoil the experience.”

“It’s that Monday…the Monday when the office has to deal with the aftermath of the office Christmas party. Who knew Earl loved to sing Last Christmas so much? When did Dave eventually wake from the couch? Who brought that 12 inch sub? And what did Erica and Stu do with those handcuffs behind the couch?? I feel sorry for the cleaner. While the can looks awful the beer was much better. Full of floral pine, grapefruit and tangerine with a really light and smooth bittersweet finish.”

“When aliens first came to Earth it was for our lovely malty biscuits. Then then discovered it our beer and they never left. Exactly what it says on the label. Full of sweet, biscuity malt throughout balanced with a light bittersweet finish. Lovely.”

“Major traffic has been reported throughout Connecticut after a sticky red substances was reported on two roads. Police have now identified the substance as raspberry jam but are still scratching their heads in bewilderment wondering how it got there though. A purée of berries on the nose and tongue is completed with a light citrus bitterness. This surely counts as one of my five a day right?”

“Contains pineapple, mandarin, papaya, passionfruit, guava, mango and lime. Tastes like pineapple, mandarin, papaya, passionfruit, guava, mango and lime…with a little dose of oats and freshly cut grass to balance the sharp, tart bitterness. This has been sitting in my fridge for over a week so I’ve obviously missed the boat on craft beer wankery but for those who haven’t creamed their pants over this multiple times already, it is an absolute bomb of fruits and juices. Lap it up.”

“A citrus fruit and biscuit aroma with some light grassy hop. A rich toffee flavour is completed with a bitter finish of lemon and grapefruit. Big thank you to @hophideout for providing me with some of their favourite beers to try and review. I hope you guys have an awesome birthday and I’ll be up to Sheffield especially to see you guys very soon.”
