The drinks business Hong Kong’s upcoming masterclasses in January 2017 will shine a light on Tuscany’s most famous wine export: Super Tuscans as well as introducing special guest, the Marchese Leonardo Frescobaldi.

Tenuta di CastelGiocondo

Discover the diversity, elegance and enduring charm of one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world: Tuscany. The drinks business Hong Kong is hosting two in-depth masterclasses which will be moderated by Michael Palij MW, alongside Marchese Leonardo Frescobaldi, 29th generation owner of the renowned Tuscan estate and Erika Ribaldi, export manager of Luce della Vite.

Held at the Conrad, the first masterclass will champion Tuscany’s native grape, Sangiovese, with six top expressions for comparison from three renowned family estates: Tenuta di CastelGiocondo, Castello di Nipozzano and Luce della Vite where guests can learn about the specific characteristics of the regional designations from Tuscany.

The second masterclass will shine a light on one of Tuscany’s most famous wine exports: Super Tuscans where the pursuit of elegance balanced with power from the Tuscan terroir will be explored with five examples from the estates of Tenuta di Castiglioni, Tenuta di Castel Giocondo and Luce della Vite, all served from magnums unique to this event.

Following the masterclass, guests will enjoy an aperitivo with Marchese Leonardo Frescobaldi before a fantastic Frescobaldi ‘Cru’ dinner at Nicholini’s restaurant with six examples of the estate’s fine wines chosen especially for the occasion including Ripe al Convento DOCG di Castel GioCondo Brunello di Montalcino 2007 – a top single vineyard from a stellar harvest.

Nicholini’s speciality chef, Luca De Berardinis, has created an exquisite four-course Italian feast while Julien Peros, the Conrad’s sommelier will be on hand to look after the wine selection.

So come join the drinks business Hong Kong for what will be a unique evening filled with excellent Tuscan wine; one of the world’s foremost experts on Italian wine, Michael Pali MW, as well as getting the chance to meet Marchese Leonardo Frescobaldi himself.

“The term ‘Super Tuscan’ emphasizes the concept of excellence for a wine produced in Tuscany,” said Marchese Leonardo Frescobaldi.

“It is a region worldwide recognized at the pinnacle of beauty, arts, culture and lifestyle and represents the most exclusive collection of red wines created since the 1970s to express the commitment to reach the highest level of quality perfectly combining innovation and tradition.

“The estates of Nipozzano, Castelgiocondo and Castiglioni are proud to present Mormoreto, Lamaione and Giramonte as examples of Frescobaldi’s passion and dedication.

“The Rooster represents the original old symbol of Chianti Classico and therefore year 2017 will be a marvellous occasion and opportunity not only for Tuscany but for all great wine lovers.”

Notes on the wineries featured:

Frescobaldi Toscana & Luce Frescobaldi’s story began 700 years ago in the territory of Castiglioni, in northern central Tuscany. Tenuta di Castiglioni is nestled in the gentle Florentine hills of Val di Pesa. From Montalcino to Chianti Rufina, from Poino to the Florence Hills, to the coasts of Tuscany’s Maremma, the Frescobaldi wines offer you unforgettable experiences from six unique places and six enchanting stories.

The Luce estate was founded in 1995 through a collaboration of the famed Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi families. Luce is a unique expression of Tuscany, with grapes from vineyards with some of the best growing conditions in this wine region – the first wine produced in Montalcino by blending the roundness and suppleness of Merlot with the structure and elegance of Sangiovese.
