Highland Park releases Ice Edition 17YO in HK

With a distinctly Viking theme, Highland Park’s Ice Edition has been launched in Hong Kong which celebrates the historical links between the Orkney Islands and Denmark.

Highland Park’s brand ambassador, Martin Markvardsen

The Ice Edition expression which comes in a distinctive blue cut glass bottle, follows on from Highland Park’s earlier Valhalla Collection where each whisky was named after four Viking gods, Thor, Loki,  Freya  and  Odin.

Aged for 17 years in ex-Bourbon casks with an ABV of 53.9%, the Ice Edition celebrates the links between Highland Park’s home of the Orkney Islands and its strongly Nordic influences from the Vikings in Denmark.

Only 30,000 bottles have been made and the expression is encased in a wooden mountain-shaped wooden cradle with a retail price of HK$2,590 per bottle.

Highland Park’s brand ambassador, Martin Markvardsen who was born in Denmark said, “The Orkney Islanders can trace their bloodlines to the Vikings. There’s such a big link between the two places and Highland Park wanted to highlight the myth and heritage surrounding whisky production in Orkney.”

Jason Craig, Highland Park’s brand director added: “This 17 year old single malt has a classic Highland Park flavour –  dynamic, soft spicy notes complement and intertwine with creamy vanilla  hues, providing  a  balanced and long finish.”

Hot on the heels of the Ice Edition, Highland Park is also due to release the Fire Edition 15 Year Old early next year which is a special release aged in 100% refill Port wine casks – a first for the distillery.
