Deau Cognac launches special XO for year of the rooster

Deau Cognac is launching a special edition of XO with a rooster image to celebrate China’s upcoming Year of the Rooster in 2017.

The special release is a blend of Cognacs sourced mostly from Petite Champagne and Fins Bois and aged in 350-litre Limousin oak barrels for 15 to 20 years.

The bottle’s design drew inspiration from Chinese zodiac elements and created a rooster image using bold and bright colours to convey “new year wishes”, the company said.

The Cognac is described to have notes of “oak wood, lychee, jasmine, violets and dry plum”. It has flavours of “cinnamon, cocoa, coffee, mahogany and leather”.

Deau Cognac will release just 12,000 one-litre bottles worldwide. The Cognac sells for US$280 (about RMB 2,000) a bottle and will be available from January 2017.

The Chinese Year of Rooster starts on January 28, 2017.
