Sexy Fish launches ‘haute couture’ cocktails

Celebrity hotspot Sexy Fish in Mayfair has launched a range of ‘haute couture’ cocktails inspired by catwalk creations by the likes of Valentino, McQueen, and even a painting by Picasso. In the following pages we bring you highlights from the collection and bespoke illustrations corresponding to each cocktail.

Harry Le Beau (£12)

Inspired by a McQueen dress made from 50,000 gummy bears, Sexy Fish’s version blends Havana Club 3 Year Old with lime, pineapple and curry spices. The canary yellow concoction is served with a mermaid-shaped gummy bear.

Coquelicot (£15)

With a name meaning ‘poppy’ in French, the Coquelicot is inspirted by the flower’s arresting red shade loved by Italian designer Valentino. The aperitivo blends Campari, Absolut Elyx, Aperol and yuzu topped with mint foam.

Royal Redux (£15)

Sexy Fish’s head bartender Jérôme Allaguillemette says the Royal Redux is inspired by “medieval opulence meeting the future – think lavish Tudor banquets and magnificent displays of wealth”. It marries cacao infused Nikka From the Barrel, cardamom, chocolate orange and bitters.

One Stone to Paloma (£13)

Taking cues from Mexican designer Carla Fernandez and her support of local artisans, the cocktail weaves Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila, Fernet Branca, beer, grapefruit and pineapple juice, sangrita, raspberry and Peychaud’s bitters. “Carla is to fashion what Carlo Petrini is to slow food,” says Allaguillemette.

Rice Rice Baby (£15)

The idea for this quirky cocktail came from Austrian fashion designer Julia Skergeth, who painstakingly made a shoe from bio resin and 13,896 grains of rice. The Rice Rice Baby blends Havana Club 7 Year Old, toasted coconut, yuzu saké, rice horchata and chocolate bitters, and is served with a miniature high heel.

Cocktail and Passion Fruit (£14)

Based on a 1912 cubist painting called Glass and bottle of Suze by Pablo Picasso, the liquid version features Suze, Absolut Elyx, apricot, bergamot, passion fruit, egg white, thyme and chamomile. “Picasso has inspired everyone from Oscar de la Renta to Castelbajac. We were captivated by this painting,” enthuses Allaguillemette.

F’row (£17)

Inspired by the changing face of the front row in fashion shows, which is now the domain of celebrities and fashion bloggers than glossy magazine editors, this “unspeakably pretty” drink is, according to Allaguillemette, “elegant, polished and worthy of the most intense of gazes”. In the glass you’ll find Grey Goose, Calvados, peach, lemon, Sassy Cidre Rosé and rosemary bitters.

Rainbow Tree (£16)

This dazzling drink takes its cue from the magnificent rainbow eucalyptus tree, found in new Guinea, whose outer bark peels off to reveal an inner layer of green, purple, orange and maroon tones. Served in a brightly painted Tiki-style cup, it features Plymouth Navy Strength gin, mandarin and lime juice, lavender bitters and eucalyptus essence.
