Charity urges support ahead of Alcohol Awareness Week

The Alcohol Education Trust is calling on people to help raise funds for its outreach programmes that work to reduce underage drinking by making a donation or by hosting a charity supper club, tea party or cake sale.

The charity focuses on reducing underage drinking and promoting responsible consumption of alcohol

It costs £90 for the charity to support a school, youth or sports club, working with parents, health workers, youth outreach teams and young people aged 11-18 to prevent underage drinking, reduce drunkenness and its associated risks.

The charity specifically targets children with moderate learning difficulties who it believes to be most risk from alcohol-related harm.

“We’re hoping that friends and supporters will consider hosting a low key supper, tea, book club, film night or lunch for their friends during alcohol awareness week in aid of the work we do at The Alcohol Education Trust across the County,” said Helena Conibear, director of the Alcohol Education Trust.

“We work out of a garage to ensure our overheads are kept to a minimum – so your donations go directly to training teachers and community leaders, providing our programme for young people or providing outreaches to parents and carers – helping to change behaviours and outcomes across the UK.”
